Geocaching is an emerging tourism activity and the perfect way to explore the roads less traveled, enjoy scenic views and of course, experience the great outdoors any time of year! Think of it as an exciting treasure hunt - all you need is a map, GPS (global positioning) unit and a sense of adventure! Check out these cool Geocaching adventures!

Atlantic Canada’s Hidden Histories Geotour

This GeoTour is one of only 100 worldwide Geotours developed to Geocaching Headquarters standards and promoted by them.  As per the Geocaching HQ website: “Geotours are collections of geocaches that create self-guided, themed tours around historic sites, parks, cities, and more. Geotours are often sponsored by local tourism boards, historical associations, or national park services. Local experts pick out the best places to hide new geocaches.  If you find 100 percent of the caches on the GeoTour at that time, you will earn a GeoTour souvenir for your profile, or perhaps even a geocoin or other prizes. Keep in mind that the exact number of caches on a GeoTour may increase or decrease over time.”

To learn more about Geotours click here.

Atlantic Canada’s Hidden Histories GeoTour aims to highlight various diverse and sometimes relatively unknown histories in Atlantic Canada. This first phase of the Tour highlights Black History in Atlantic Canada. There are six locations in New Brunswick, and ten locations in Nova Scotia. Each of these segments has their own geocoin, which will be awarded when you complete the passport for that segment.

When you find a geocache, in addition to signing the log sheet, you must punch your passport with the included punch or find the answer to a question. Once you have a completed passport, you can submit it to receive your geocoin.

Obtain the passport for the Fredericton, New Brunswick segment here.

Atlantic Canada’s Hidden Histories GeoTour is a collaborative project between the City of Fredericton, National Trust for Canada, the Capital Region Association of Geocachers, and the Association of Nova Scotia Geocaching.

The Fredericton Geocaching Trail
