Fredericton Will Celebrate Canada Day and Canada Day Nights

FREDERICTON, NB – Canada Day Celebrations are back in Fredericton!  After two years away due to the pandemic The Fredericton Canada Day Committee is planning a full day of family activities, live music, food and New Brunswick’s largest firework display. In addition, the group is planning two indoor musical pub style events called Canada Day Nights.  The first event will take place  June 30th and the second after the fireworks on July 1st.

As announced previously, Officer’s Square will be closed for renovations and other work in the downtown area meant it was impossible for the group to plan their event downtown. Therefore, festivities will be held on the grounds on the New Brunswick Exhibition.

“Our July 1st  celebration will include  a full day of music, entertainment, family activities, cultural displays and food vendors” says committee co-chair Paul Wentzell .  “It should be very much like our traditional celebrations that the public had come to know pre-pandemic.  We will providing a wide range of activities at no charge including a bouncy castles for the kids ”.

The fireworks will take place at 10:40pm and be staged from the Westmorland Street Bridge. The show, which is sponsored by Remax East Coast Elite Realty, will be the biggest in the province. “We feel Fredericton has the best viewing area for a large fireworks show like ours and we hope everyone will turn out to see it.”

The new Canada Day Night Concerts will be licensed ticketed events taking place at the Capital Exhibit Center. The June 30th show will feature Fredericton’s own Country sensation Tristan Horncastle.  The show will also feature one of Fredericton’s favorite bands; Slowcoaster and Barn Bhreagh from Cape Breton.  Barn Bhreagh is a traveling singer songwriter circle where all the artists play one another songs.  Among the performers is the 2022 ECMA Indigenous Artist of the Year Morgan Toney.   After the fireworks on Julys 1st the second Canada Day Night concert will feature Moncton’s The Motorleague.

“With Canada Day falling into a weekend we saw a unique opportunity to add some nighttime entertainment options for this years celebrations “ says co-chair Charles Barry. “We are very excited to add this type of format to our regular Canada Day events.”

Tickets are $24.50 and one ticket will get you into both shows.  Tickets are available starting this Thursday at 10am at fmzevents.com

There will also be plenty of live entertainment during the free events on July 1st.  “All shows on the Exhibition grounds July 1st prior to the fireworks are 100% free and will be on our outdoor stage.” says Barry.  “

Among the featured performers, July 1st will be the rock band Good Night Sunrise from Toronto, Cape Breton’s own Dave Sampson and Fredericton’s ECMA winning band Weak Size Fish.  The line up will also feature some family favorites earlier in the day like Scotty and the Stars and the Calithumpians and wide range of Fredericton and maritime-based artists.  “We hope people will stay and enjoy the entire day. The music will be great and their will be lots of activities for the whole family.” says Barry.
