Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is & #SupportFredLocal!

Our community has done an amazing job supporting local this past year+ but we can’t stop now! We have persevered, pivoted, and kept calm and carried on despite the ever-changing landscape of COVID-19.   Now, nearly two years later, its more important than ever to support our local economy.

Here are 5 easy ways you can #SupportFredLocal:

1. Take out

In addition to providing us with delicious food, our local restaurants contribute to jobs, economic growth and the vibrancy of our city.  Annual revenue for a single Canadian restaurant ranges between $30,000 - $5,000,000 with more than 95% typically going back into the economy.

Whatever you’re in the mood for Fredericton is blessed with a wide variety of cuisines to choose from; this may be the perfect time to try them out!   Check out all of the city’s restaurants listed here.

2. Shop Local

The heart of our community is small business - let’s support them by buying local whenever we can. From locally roasted coffee to hand knit mittens,  and everything in between Fredericton has a multitude of local makers of all things and many are now offering on-line shopping.  Even when it comes to items like books, or groceries, there are locally owned shops to consider first. If you can’t find what you’re looking for in the city, then shop the province or at least a Canadian store. And don’t be afraid to ask local business owners for help - they may be able to get what you’re looking for.  Consider buying gift certificates now from local businesses that you know you’ll be shopping at in the future.

3. How about a Staycation Stay & Play and Dinner’s On Us!

Staying in our one-household bubbles can be hard, so why not get a change of scenery, have some fun and treat yourself to a staycation here at home. Our local hotels and B&Bs have 20+ amazing Stay & Play accommodation packages to choose from.  Not only do they come with a BONUS $50 at check-in and free parking, many feature inclusions like Crabbe Mountain passes, food & beverage vouchers, BrewBucks, and MORE!

4. Explore Your Own Backyard!

Bundle up and have some in New Brunswick’ Winter City!! Why not try downhill skiing or snowboarding at Crabbe Mountain, or head to Mactaquac Provincial Park, where you can borrow snowshoes, or cross-country skies, rent a fat bike, or try their new skating trail.  Gather up your bubble for an old fashion sleigh ride, or a walk downtown to see the ice sculptures.

5. Social media

Without even opening your wallet, you can still help #SupportFredLocal.

Great ideas above and for here at home, use the hashtag #SupportFredLocal when you’re sharing and reposting social media messages. If you’re a local business then display a #SupportFredLocal window decal in your place of business. And don’t forget to enter our contest where you share a photo how you’re supporting a local business, could be todays’ yummy take-out dinner, you and your purchase from a local shop or café.   In addition to random giveaways throughout the contest period, there will be a Grand Prize – and it is actually worth a grand!  Our winner will receive $250 in Business Fredericton North Dollars, $250 in Downtown Dollars AND a $500 Gift Card to a local business of their choice.

Good luck and thank you for your part in the recovery and success of our beautiful city!
