New Year, New Treats!
Whether it’s after a fun day of sledding or just a nice walk outside, it’s nice to warm up with a drink and a snack! There are many delectable desserts and bevvies being offered at our local cafés that are perfect for the winter season. Whether you are ordering delivery, takeout or stopping by with members of your bubble, you will want to sample these seasonal treats before they are gone!
Mill Town Roasters
Mill Town Roasters is offering a variety of beverages that are sure to quench your sweet tooth this season. There is the Pistachio, Brown Butter Toffee, Golden Milk and NEW Cinnamon Bun Lattés, as well as their new Mocha Series featuring Dark Chocolate, White Chocolate and Peppermint...to name a few. Not only do they serve hot drinks, there are also several roasted beans you can purchase for brewing coffee at home. Right now, Milltown is offering a Winter Solstice blend: “ ...the bold notes of cedar and bakers chocolate pulled from Sulawesi, the smooth vanilla notes from El-Salvador and a hint of crisp citrus note from Ethiopia is the perfect harmony to bundle up by the fire and watch the snow fall” – SOLD!
We cannot talk about Milltown without mentioning their Fredericton-famous cinnamon buns, a must-try if you’re into delightfully gooey, cream cheese covered treats! Their apple fritters and donuts also receive an honorable mention from us, for days when you can resist the urge to just order a cinnamon bun again. We must note that the above-mentioned baked goods are offered all year ‘round, thankfully.
The Abbey Café & Gallery
Known for being connoisseurs of healthy vegan food including a daily selection of delicious soups, veggie-based bowls, paninis, salads and now, plant based grocery items, you will be happy to know that the Abbey Café also has a selection of sweets and coffee! Their inhouse brew features locally roasted, Whitney Coffee Company beans and all their sweets are made from scratch and VEGAN! If you’ve chosen the path of a vegan diet, the Abbey will be offering a winter comfort classic, hot chocolate, and cookies until the end of February.
Heights Cold Brew Coffee Company Inc.
Starting a New Year’s resolution can be scary and tough, but Heights Cold Brew Coffee is offering a keto latté that will keep you on track and give you the boost you need for the day! They are also offering their famous Chicken Bone Latté as well as their delicious Eggnog Latté!
If these seasonal flavours aren’t really your jam, maybe you will be more interested in their specialty, a naturally sweet, smooth and bold blend of Cold Brew and Nitro Brew coffee. Their craft brewing style means that their coffee is steeped from 12 to 24 hours to create an amazing flavour! This beverage can be served over ice, as a draft, flavored, hot or infused with nitrogen to produce what is called 'Nitro Brew'. You can even pick up their cold brew in the form of single servings or a growler, from the Fredericton Boyce Farmers’ Market for your Saturday shopping pick me up!
Jonnie Java Roasters
For the kiddos being pulled along on a shopping trip or for those sweet tooth lovers, Jonnie Java Roasters offers an impeccable Fluffy Cloud Hot Chocolate that should do the trick!
We should also mention that you can purchase beans from different 33 countries from Jonnie Java, that are roasted in-house, with a promise of always being fresh. You can also grab a java to go from their espresso bar, crafted by their onsite barista. Not sure which country’s beans you’d like to try? Roll the dice and whichever number it adds up to, that’s the bean your coffee will be made from!
The Tipsy Muse Café
Head to the Tipsy Muse and check out all the delicious winter treats they’re offering this winter season! To start we have the Winter Latté (brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, ginger and molasses), a Rosemary Vanilla Latté (ugh… I know right!) and a Peppermint Mocha. Some more great vegan choices here, they now carry vegan peanut butter cups, breakfast cookies, DONUTS and macarons! Chess Piece Patisserie & Café
Serving organic, fair trade coffee, specialty flavoured drinks, Parisian-style desserts and now grab and go meal items like quiche, grilled cheese sandwiches, sausage rolls and a variety of daily soups, Chess Piece Café has it all! If you’re looking for a seasonal treat, their Salted Caramel Latte is a definite winner, or you can add a flavour shot of Gingerbread, Marshmallow to one of their regular menu items.
You can always expect to find beautiful hand-made desserts and pastries at Chess Piece; macarons, Choux pastries, cakes and tarts, to name a few. During the winter months you can expect flavours like London fog, mint or pomegranate macarons, be sure to follow their social media channels for updates.
These delightfully warm beverages are sure to at least briefly relieve you from the chill of winter, while also delighting your taste buds but the BEST part is the warmth you will feel from continuing to #SupportFredLocal businesses when they need it the most!
