10 Reasons to “Fall” for Fredericton!

All of you Autumn enthusiasts out there, I hear you! Fall is pretty much the best season. The temperatures are pleasant (sweata weatha), low humidity, and the colours are breathtaking! It’s also the best time to venture out and explore the many offerings that this season bestows. Make the most of it! Here’s a few reasons why I love fall in Fredericton! Here we go:

1. Fall Brews!

Fredericton has a great variety of craft alcohol producers and 11 rocking taprooms. It’s not too late to hop on your bike and get a “taste” of some of the seasonal brews that local producers are offering. Maybe you want to sample Picaroons’ Harvest Ale or maybe Grimross Brewing’s Oktoberfest Marzen?  Don’t forget to take advantage of the #FredTapTrail, where you can collect cool swag and sample some great brews. We’ve made it easy for you in our blog, “The Craft Brewing Capital Fall Brews Guide” for some seasonal inspiration!

2. Fredericton Cornucopia

Moving to a complete vegetarian lifestyle, I completely subscribe to the many markets and market stands in and around the Fredericton area.  October is a season of bounty, from sweet carrots to juicy tomatoes, take advantage of this short season of plenty. Read our Market/Farm stand blog for more ideas!

3. Hit the trails!

Fredericton’s crown jewel is its trail system.  With over 120 km of trail that extends and meets the NB Trail, this trail network provides leisurely distances on paved pathways, or for the more adventurous, rugged trails that guarantee to get your blood pumping! One of my faves is Killarney Lake; you can stick to the scenic winding trail around the lake or extend outward to the many trails that interconnect the area. For more inspiration, give our blog a read, “Fredericton – a Cyclists Dream” or if you prefer to keep your feet squarely planted on the ground and prefer running over cycling, I suggest reading my blog “Running Routes in Fredericton”.

4. A backdrop like no other!

With the season at its height of colour in mid-October, this is a great time to take a Sunday drive to check out the stunning colours but also to snap a few pics; some of the more notable backdrops are Moxons Country Pumpkin, Harvey’s Big Potato and the “red carpet” of Killarney Lake.  Need more options? Read out blog, “Top 8 Places to take Fall Photos in Fredericton.”

5. Ahhhhh….sweater weather!

Are you an experienced knitter (kudos!) or a novice like yours truly? Whatever your skill level, Fredericton has you covered with many local businesses selling beautiful skeins of popular and luxury yarns. Not of fan of needles? Our local markets and artisan shops are the best place to find handknits. Check out our blog, “How to Prepare for Sweater Weather in Fredericton” and be sure to #SupportFredLocal

6. Art that is “off the (traditional) Walls"

There is no question that fall is the best time of year to explore.  More and more we are noticing how murals and public art can transform a space, add to this the fact that Fredericton has quite a few talented artists out there making it fertile ground for new work. How many public murals can you spot? Fredericton has a number of them dotted around the city.  Take a self-guided walking tour and challenge yourself on how many you can find! Read our blog to get the full scoop!

7. Get your adrenaline pumping!

October also brings with it a fair amount of scary stuff so it totally behooves me to mention some pretty cool events that are meant to get your heart racing! On the high end of the scare-o-meter, there is Sleepy Hollow Haunted Trail. Make your way through a dark trail where you will encounter all manner of ghoulish creatures.  This is a high scare event, not meant for kids. A popular event over Halloween is the APEGNB Haunted Tour. From October 26-31 you can visit the Charlotte Street Arts Centre where it is transformed into a spectacularly scary scream fest.  This year you will need to call ahead to reserve your time.

8. Go “Fore” it! Fall Golfing

Looking to try a new course or just getting into golfing? With most courses staying open well into October, the biggest dilemma you’ll have is which course to play on! Read our golfing blog for more details; it is also recommended that you call first before you pile your gear in the car, to ensure you have a tee time booked.

9. Take up Geocaching!

It’s kind of like a scavenger hunt and it’s a lot of fun! If you like to search for hidden containers (or caches) it’s a great way to see the city in a whole new way.  Check out our Fredericton Geocaching tour passport and collect some pretty nifty geocoins!

10. #SupportFredLocal!

Get a jump on holiday shopping from the comfort of your home! Have you heard about the “Market Basket”? It’s our latest initiative to bring buyers and sellers together in an online portal. It’s a safe, easy way to shop and a great way to #SupportFredLocal! Of course, if you’d prefer to browse in person there’s that option too (where applicable).
