20 km north of Fredericton brings you to the Mactaquac area, uniquely defined by the hydro dam there. At the Mactaquac Generating Station, a fascinating tour gives you the background on the massive project of building the dam between 1963 and 1968, and an understanding of how the largest hydroelectric generating station in the Maritimes operates.
Free tours are available mid-May to Labour Day (September 1), from 9am-4:30pm. Tours are not appropriate for toddlers, preschool-aged children or pets. No open toe shoes allowed.
