Weave a Market Basket
Basket weaver, Lisa Fullarton, will lead you in creating this very functional hard sided shopping basket with strapping handles. It’s a classic carrier you will want to use all the time. If you are on the go with a water bottle, lunch, coffee, a book, etc. this is a great carry all, and nothing will get crushed in transit; the bottom is flat and stable to go behind your seat on the car floor, or on the seat next to you. Your Market basket will be completed and ready to go by the end of day two of this workshop. A finished basket is approximately 11" long x 7" wide and stands about 10" tall. The handles are nylon, so they do not add any height to the item.
Instructor: Lisa Fullarton
Lisa began rediscovering artistic expression in 2011, when she opened Black Butterfly Studio with Black & White Mandalas and Zentangle inspired artwork. She sold work and taught classes locally until returning to school. Graduating in 2015 from the NB College of Craft and Design’s Aboriginal Visual Arts Program, she began to call on recently discovered family roots with a strong sense of spirituality and creativity blended with a passion for colour and love of traditional work. The result is one-of-a-kind pieces that are from her heart with a focus on a love of "visual texture" in tactile 3D work, such as carving and basketry.
She enjoys creating basketry products that may serve a practical purpose and represent fusion of function and fabulous design. Recently becoming a juried member of the New Brunswick Crafts Council has given her more opportunities to share what she has learned and experienced with others through teaching workshops, demonstrations, and selling her products.
