Head of 4 Bridges Regatta

The Fredericton Head of 4 Bridges is the premiere fall regatta held in the region and welcomes athletes from around the maritime provinces. This year’s Fredericton Head of 4 Bridges will see athletes from around the Maritimes compete on Saturday, October 1st on the St. John River. Crews consisted of all sizes and levels of experience with university crews getting their first taste of competition for the season.

There are typically three flights with a range of categories for all featuring a 4k m and two 2Km races, starting at the Princess Margaret Bridge and ending in front of the Small Craft Aquatic Centre. This is a true spectator sport with races taking place in a head-race style, with a staggered start and chase-racing. Boats will be started at 20-second intervals so every boat is chasing another boat and at the same time being pursued by another boat which makes for an exciting day of racing.

Flight start times are as follows:
Flight 1: 7:45 a.m.
Flight 2: 9:45 a.m. (walking bridge)
Flight 3: 11 a.m. (walking bridge)

The trail system runs right along the river so there are many places to stop and watch or even follow the races on your bike.

The races go right under the walking bridge and this gives you a great vantage point of the first half of any of the races.

The pedway provides you with a view further up the course and the FRC boathouse is where the finish line is located. There’s really no bad spot for viewing the regatta.
