Felt Story Shawl
Intermediate to advanced felters with a thirst for knowledge and a love of dynamic, fast paced learning environments will really enjoy Alexandra Keely’s workshop. At the end of this all encompassing two days you will leave with your own handmade "story shawl". Through hands-on learning you will discover a plethora of techniques used to create stunning textures using loosely woven cloths, an assortment of fibres, yarns and physical manipulation.
There will be time to reflect on techniques learned, to contemplate colour schemes, and to get to work sketching out your masterpiece. After carefully laying out the wool accordingly your own designs, we will begin the wonderful transformation of fleece into felt. Although participants will have a variety of materials provided to sample with, creativity and innovation is encouraged - let your imagination run wild!
Instructor: Alexandra Keely
Alexandra Keely is a fibre artist, based in Fredericton, New Brunswick, whose predominant means of expression is felt. Using the wet-felt technique she combines an assortment of fibres and processes to create stunning one-of-a-kind two and three-dimensional art pieces. She draws inspiration from social, political, and environmental issues, her own life, and the natural world. As an artist, one of Alexandra’s greatest passions is to share her knowledge on felting, and assist others to discover the wonders of the world of fibre arts.
