Dig into Our Tasty Local Treats
Blessed with a vibrant multicultural food community, and a number of local farms and food producers, every meal in Fredericton is an adventure for your taste buds! Whether you are looking for a classic diner breakfast or a unique blend of local food paired with exotic flavours, you’ll find a meal to suit nearly any taste in Fredericton.
Start your day off with breakfast at Claudine’s Eatery, where you can go for the traditional bacon and eggs, or mix things up and try the ultimate Canadian meal – a lobster crock pot poutine! You can wash all of that deliciousness down with one of their fully loaded Caesars, featuring Devil’s Keep vodka from Fredericton’s first craft distillery.
For lunch, why not try 540 Kitchen & Bar? The small restaurant boasts big flavour with its seasonal rotating menu and selection of local craft beers. For those of you looking to change it up and have a vegan meal, stop in at the Abbey Café and Gallery. Their food pairs nicely with locally-made Red Rover craft cider, sold in the same space as the cafe. And Fredericton’s newest addition, Stmr.36 BBQ and Social at the Delta Fredericton on the banks of the Saint John River is a fun new choice for a hearty meal with an excellent view.
Don’t forget to explore the city and work off all of those calories in order to make some room for dinner! If seafood is your thing, try some fine dining at Wolastoq Wharf on Fredericton’s northside. Operated by the St. Mary’s First Nation, their fresh fish and seafood can’t be beat. If you are looking for a fully local menu, try Maxwell’s Restaurant inside the Lord Beaverbrook Hotel. Their best-selling “Big MacLeod” burger meal is named after the local farmer who raises the cows just outside of the city. And if you want a romantic night out, try the sharing plates and creative cocktails at Fredericton’s latest hot spot, the 11th mile.
Food trucks featuring locally produced food can also be found at a variety of locations around the city, including the Saturday morning Boyce Farmers’ Market.
Introduced in 2020, Fredericton al fresco, part of the City’s #SupportFredLocal initiative supporting local businesses and the community during COVID-19. New picnic and bistro-style tables have been set up in Phoenix Square, Barracks Square, and at Nashwaaksis Commons to provide a unique style of outdoor dining experience. From June until September, you can bring your own meal, or order delivery from select restaurants around the city. To add to the atmosphere, musical performances featuring local musicians will take place from Thursday to Saturday, and a piece of local art related to the changes brought about by COVID-19 will be installed in Phoenix Square.
Whatever your taste, Fredericton can fill your belly!
