2022 Canada Day Celebrations in Fredericton move to New Brunswick Exhibition Grounds

For immediate release: May 17th 2022

FREDERICTON, NB – With the construction in Officers’ Square, Fredericton’s Canada Day Committee is pleased to announce they will be planning a full day of music and family-based activities on the grounds of the New Brunswick Exhibition on Smythe Street.

Officer’s Square is closed for renovations and other work in the downtown area meant it was impossible for the group to plan their traditional downtown event.

“We are pleased to be working with the team at NBEX to provide a full day of music, entertainment, family activities, cultural displays and food vendors” says committee co-chair Charles Barry.  “It should be very much like our traditional celebrations that the public had come to know pre-pandemic.  We are thrilled to be providing a full event again this year after a couple of years away.”

And while the committee is confident the NBEX grounds will be a fantastic location for the event they stress it is temporary.  “We feel the downtown is our natural home and look forward to returning there.” says committee co-chair Paul Wentzell.

In addition, the committee is planning its largest ever fireworks display for the evening of July 1st. The fireworks will be staged from the Westmorland Street Bridge.

“We also thought it was important the fireworks be conducted from the Bridge as we have done for the past few Canada Days.” says Wentzell. “This allows us to make sure the show can be seen by the largest number of people”.

The committee will be announcing a full line up of performers and activities in the upcoming weeks. They are also contemplating a kickoff event on June 30th.  “This would be a more adult oriented evening inside the Capital Exhibit Centre.” says Barry. “We think it could be a great kick off to the holiday weekend”.
