Fredericton – A Cyclist’s Dream!

No matter the season or the type of ride you want to do, Fredericton is the place to be! There is something for everyone; the family out for a little spin, couples on a date, shredders ready to rip the singletrack, or for someone who wants to go on a long road or gravel ride!
Before you head out on your adventure, downtown Fredericton boasts 2 amazing bike shops, The Radical Edge and Savage’s Bicycle Center. Both shops have super knowledgeable staff who would love to help you out should you need an emergency service, or just some supplies along the way! Be sure to visit the River Valley Cycling (RVC) website for more information on cycling in Fredericton. RVC is the local non-profit organization responsible for progressing cycling in Fredericton year-round.
Looking for Singletrack?
Are you an adrenaline junkie looking for some sweet singletrack to shred? Look no further than Fredericton, which boasts 6 trailheads within a 20-minute radius! Each trailhead has its own unique qualities, with a mix of flow trails, to rocky, rooty “classic” East Coast mountain bike styles. Each location can be found on RVC’s Trailforks page, which shows all of the trails at that location, as well as the level of difficulty and up to date trail reports.
Are you a Gravel Grinder?
Did you know that Fredericton has over 120kms of paved and non-paved trails? These are excellent for shorter family rides for all ages, to longer, more intense gravel rides. These trails also connect to trails leading out of the city in almost all directions! There are fantastic longer loops, perfect for a day trip, that can take you around the Mactaquac Dam, or head towards Lincoln and make your way to Oromocto. These trails are excellent for all types of riding.
Coffee Ride?
Are you and your friends looking for a chill ride followed by post-ride coffee & snacks? Maybe you are hoping to go from brewery to brewery in the city? Fredericton has the answer! There are so many breweries in the city, that there is the new “Fredericton Taproom Trail”. Take your passport style map with you and collect stamps at each of the 11 participating breweries around town to earn cool swag! Fredericton is home to many wonderful coffee shops, from homegrown local shops like Mill Town Roasters and Chess Piece Patisserie to chain stores like Starbucks and Second Cup. There are shops both up and downtown, and across the bridge to the Northside, so you can ride wherever your heart desires, and still get your caffeine (and yummy baked treats) fix!
Winter Wonderland?
With Canada’s seemingly longest season being winter, what better way is there than to spend a day (or more) fatbiking around the city?! RVC has many trail gnomes who “shoe to ride” where they snowshoe the wooded trails in the city so that cycling can happen year-round! City crews also ensure that many of the paved city trails are plowed, so there is always a way to get around! During FROSTival, there is often a “Tour de Beer” where fatbikers go from brewery to brewery via fatbikes and trails, trying out beer at each brewery! Tickets go FAST for this amazing event, so ensure you plan ahead!
These are just a few of the awesome ways you can enjoy Fredericton on two wheels, there are so many more to choose from! I hope to see you on the trail!
