Winter Sunsets in the Capital City

If you’re willing to brave the cold, winter sunsets are a beauty to behold! With the leaves from most trees long gone beneath the snow, the beautiful views are vaster, and the hues of orange, pink, purple and blue, brighter! Whether you are out snowshoeing along our 120 km of trails, cross country skiing in one of our local parks, or basking in Fredericton’s beauty via the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge, we here in Fredericton are blessed with nature’s bounty, especially when it comes to stunning winter sunset and sunrise views.

Sunsets and Silhouettes

We will begin our list of favorite winter sunrise and sunset views on Fredericton’s Northside. Carleton Park is no stranger to locals, who know that here, you can witness a prime sunset view, featuring the silhouette of Fredericton’s city scape.

Warm up with Craft Beer

A hop, skip and jump away you will find the Picaroons Roundhouse, a must-visit for any craft beer lover, this taproom offers an array of their own craft beer on tap, as well as a dynamic selection of over 100 craft beverages from NB breweries at all times – you can even grab a bite to eat from the on-site restaurant, 540 North. You can take in the sunset from inside the taproom via the Roundhouses’ south facing picture windows, or enjoy it cozied up next to one of their outdoor firepits. Don’t forget to collect a stamp for your #FredTapTrail map with your pint or flight!

There is lots to do at Killarney Lake during the winter months! A haven for cross country skiers, hikers, snowshoe adventures, or simply taking your dog for a walk, it’s worth an early AM or evening excursion to Killarney to take-in the sunrise and sunset views. Golden Hour

The golden hour is the period of daytime shortly after sunrise or before sunset when light the is perfect for photo taking. It should come as no surprise that public art really shines in this light. Wondering where to find these photo worthy moments? Take a self-guided public art or mural tour.

Woodlot Vibes

Another great way to explore the outdoors is by checking out The UNB Woodlot! Whether by foot or fat bike, you are sure to be mesmerized by the winding paths, towering pine trees, trickling streams and, of course, sunrise and sunset views! We recommend taking in a showstopping sunset at the Beaver Pond, but there are lots of opportunities to catch the glowing lights through the trees and hill peaks. If you’re gearing up for sunset time, you could take this chance to grab a bite to eat from an uptown restaurants, or enjoy craft brew from Maybee Brewing or Grimross – a great opportunity to collect a stamp for your #FredTapTrail map!

Stay a Night and wake up to beautiful views!

Consider a change of scenery by treating yourself to a getaway in New Brunswick’s Winter City! To make your vacay even sweeter, if you book a nights’ stay with a featured package from a local hotel, motel or B&B you will receive a BONUS $50 in Downtown Fredericton or Business Fredericton North Dollars at check-in and free downtown parking during your stay. Each of the 30+ Stay and Play Packages offer special perks like room upgrades (you deserve a Deluxe Suite with a Jacuzzi!), food and beverage credits, a bottle of wine upon arrival and more!

Any uptown accommodation in Fredericton is located only minute away from the UNB Woodlot, or top half of Odell Park. If you’re planning a downtown stay, the Crowne Plaza, Delta and By the River B&B all provide a chance to wake up just a stone’s throw from the majestic Wolastoq River. If you’re planning a relaxed visit to Brennan’s B&B, or a fun family stay at the Ramada Hotel, yes, you guessed it, also fantastic locations with river views!
