Fredericton's Family Themed Winter Festival Makes Plans for a Big Return

For immediate release: November 16, 2021

FREDERICTON (NB): Today, the newly formed WinterFrolic Limited, announced plans to host a relaunch of the new annual off season mid-winter event, Fredericton’s family themed winter festival WinterFrolic D’hiver.

Fredericton FROSTival will have a new anchor event in the heart of the city this winter. “Bring the kids for outdoor skating, adventure through the snow maze, and ride a tube down the snow mountain.” said Event Co-Chair, Reegan McDougall. “Invite your partner for a romantic winter date night that includes a winter ride on the Merry-Go-Round, followed by an enjoyable view across the frozen river atop of the Ferris wheel, then sit close together on a memorable sleigh ride. Finish the evening listening to live performances of your favorite local artists while sitting by the bonfire sipping on hot chocolate”.

WinterFrolic has partnered with the Chalmers Foundation to assist with providing volunteers to operate the event each weekend. “We’re thrilled for the opportunity to partner with this event”, says Gilles Allain, Executive Director of the Foundation. “The Chalmers Foundation raises funds to support healthy, caring communities and this event is a great initiative for citizens to get outside and be active during the cold winter months”.

WinterFrolic is an NBEX initiative to add more valuable events at the facility.  Paired with lights, music and food, snow and ice will form the basis of a creative and colourful event. The event will be located on the Exhibition Grounds, primarily on the infield of the racetrack.  WinterFrolic will be the signature annual winter event that will help the physical and mental health of the community. The event will take place over two weekends in January, with a weather date in February. The event will encourage people to get outdoors and get active and provide a safe opportunity to socialize and resume doing the winter things make a New Brunswick a great place to live.

Co-Chair Mike Vokey added, “By mid-winter when WinterFrolic is presented, people will be looking to find new ways to maintain personal connections, socialize, and get outdoors to have some fun recreational activities. It is important to the NBEX organization to produce and host events that foster community spirit and channel authentic, heartfelt values that resonate within the community.”

“It is exciting to look forward to such an amazing winter event in the province; one that provides families and friends fun memories,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace, who is also the minister responsible for women’s equality.  “I encourage all Brunswickers to participate in this year’s WinterFrolic D’hiver.”

"I am really excited about the WinterFrolic event being organized by the NBEX," said Fredericton Mayor Kate Rogers. "Fredericton Tourism has worked hard to make FROSTival a wonderful winter celebration but it has needed a large outdoor, family friendly event in recent years.  Best of luck to the NBEX with their planning and, when the time comes, I encourage residents and visitors to get out, be active, and enjoy all that Fredericton has to offer during the winter.”
