Fredericton Tourism Launches New Brunswick’s First Taproom Trail

For immediate release: October 15, 2020
FREDERICTON (NB): Fredericton Tourism has partnered with 11 local taprooms to create the Fredericton Taproom Trail; the first trail of its kind in New Brunswick.
The craft brewing industry has been booming in Fredericton for several years, with nearly 30 local producers in the Greater Fredericton area ranging from new startups to award-winning breweries. With one taproom per 5,400 people – and counting, Fredericton has one of the highest concentrations of taprooms per capita in Canada.
“Fredericton’s craft brewing industry is a key marketing pillar for Fredericton Tourism”, says Fredericton Tourism Manager Stacey Russell. “We actively promote the local craft brewing scene as a travel motivator to potential visitors; and with the creation of this trail and partnership with our local producers; we look to further strengthen Fredericton’s position as Atlantic Canada’s Craft Brewing Capital”, says Russell.
The Fredericton Taproom Trail is a passport-style map that allows craft beer and cider fans to choose their own taproom adventure. Every time a patron buys a pint or flight at one of the participating taprooms listed on the map, they receive a stamp, enabling them to collect exclusive prizes.
The planning for the Fredericton Taproom Trail began in the fall of 2019. After months of research and collaboration with the local taprooms, the trail was officially launched in March as part of Fredericton Craft Beer Week, one week before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. While promotions for the trail had to be put on hold, the trail was re-launched in May as a main component in Fredericton Tourism’s summer campaign.
“We are happy to be part of this partnership that showcases our industry”, says Picaroons owner Sean Dunbar. “We saw a number of Taproom Trail participants from the Maritime provinces this summer, using the maps to navigate and investigate the city”, says Dunbar.
“As we continue to navigate our way through these unprecedented times, we look forward to building on this promotion. We have new ideas on how to expand into outside markets and leverage marketing opportunities with our partners”, says Fredericton Tourism’s Consumer & Leisure Coordinator Holly Kirkpatrick.
