Are you a “FRExpert”? (Fall Edition!)

Whether you were born and raised in Fredericton or, like me, moved here from somewhere else (13 years and counting!), there are still little gems that are waiting to be discovered! If you are a list writer and love to check things off (so satisfying, right?) then you’re in luck! How many of these quintessentially Fredericton activities have you done? If you can say yes to most, then guess what? You are a FRExpert! If you’ve read our “FRExpert” blog in May, you know what I’m talking about! This time, it’s all about Fall and the many things you can see and do in Fredericton during this colourful season!
Download the checklist HERE.
Here we go: have you ever…
- Visited Kings Landing in September or October? If not, we recommend taking a tour of the village or experiencing cool events like the Harvest Home Celebration and their ever-popular Thanksgiving dinners!
- Used one of these iconic landmarks as a backdrop for a fall selfie: The Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge or the Pedway? Both are great places for showing off the fall leaves (and your lovely face!)
- Noticed the anomaly within the walking bridge structure? (Hint: it’s meant to be a porthole to something very holy!)
- Visited the pumpkin patch at Moxon’s Country Pumpkin or Silver Valley Farms (look for the Big Potato!)? It’s a great photo op with the kiddies!
- Spent some time leaf peeping in one of these beautiful areas: Route 616 towards Keswick Ridge or Route 102 South? Both provide the BEST views of some eye-popping fall colour! For more ideas on the most photographed spots, check out NB Tourism’s “Guide to Leaf Peeping in New Brunswick”
- Climbed Currie Mountain? Did you know? This mountain was once a volcano! (Find out more in our blog! )
- Taken photos of your kids or yourself in the “monkey trees” at Odell Park? Did you know that Odell is home to one of Canada’s best old growth forests!
- Hit the Fredericton Trail system for a fall bike ride. There are many great look-out points that will give you a moment to truly appreciate living in this city! Personally, my “go to” trails are #15 Gibson and # 18 North Riverfront (both on the Northside) and # 3 Valley on the Southside; they are lovely routes that run along the Saint John River. Check out the Trail Map for more inspiration!
- Taken advantage of the fall bounty by visiting one of Fredericton’s Farmers markets? Yummy tomatoes, carrots, ethnic delights and more await you at one of our markets: Boyce Farmers Market, Cultural Market, Eco Market and Food Market at the Ex as well as our newest addition, North Side Creators Market at Picaroons!
- Gone on a scavenger hunt AKA the Fredericton Geocaching Tour! Look for hiding places on your phone by getting the coordinates. Did you know that there are over 600 caches in Fredericton alone? Fall is THE best time to find caches; find all 15 on our Fredericton Geocaching Tour and collect some cool tokens!
- Taken on the #FredTapTrail? This is an awesome way to celebrate and savour brews from the many taprooms in Fredericton, with some pretty nice swag! Get the passport, get it stamped and try doing this trail on your bike, on the trail! It’s a great way to get to know our breweries and go on a gorgeous ride at this time of year.
- Reached waaaaay up for the perfect, rosy, red apple? Fall is synonymous with picking those choice apples at any one of our Apple U Pick spots! Read our blog to get the scoop!
- Taken in live music at the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival?
- Cruised the Saint John River in a houseboat? Lakeway Houseboat Vacations operate a number of houseboats for week long or weekend trips. The stunning colours that surround the river will take your breath away!
- Went on a nighttime walk in the downtown to hear spine tingling ghost stories? The Calithumpians, the local theatre troupe will take you on a Haunted Hike, a ghostly lantern lit walk through the streets of old Fredericton.
How many will you do or have you done? If you can say you’ve done half of them, you are well on your way to being a “FREXpert”! For more great ideas, check out the blog section of the Fredericton Tourism website and get out and #ExploreFredericton!
