From sporting events to musicals, there is fun for everyone this month in Fredericton! We’ve complied 30+ ways to keep busy in August, so get on out and enjoy the rest of the summer!

Thursday, August 1: Stanley Cup Celebration

Jake Allen will be in town with the Stanley Cup! Come down to Officers’ Square for a meet & greet with St. Louis Blues goaltender and lots of on-site entertainment!

Calling all sports fans: check out the NB Sports Hall of Fame! Located in the Historic Garrison District, the museum celebrates our sports heritage through exhibits and the latest interactive technology, there’s fun for all ages!

Friday, August 2: Music at the Cathedral

Stop by the stunning & historical Christ Church Cathedral at noon on Fridays to enjoy classical music from talented artists from around the area! Guided tours of the Cathedral are also available Monday through Saturday, so take a visit and prepare to be in awe of its gracious architectural elements.

Jam out this New Brunswick Day long weekend, with the Nashwaak MusicFest! You’re in for 3 days of great music, camping, arts and family fun on the Nashwaak River. See you on the river!

Saturday, August 3: Bottoms up at Down East Brew Fest!

Fredericton’s got the highest concentration of breweries, meaderies and cideries in all of Atlantic Canada, so you can be sure that something good is always brewing here! Down East Brew Fest brings in some of the region’s best craft alcohol products in Carleton Street.

The event is also paired with the Fredericton Beer Run, which features a 1 mile, 5km and 12km run along the city’s impressive trail system. Participants will have access to the Down East Brew Fest after their run.

Sunday, August 4: Summer Culinary Weekend at Kings Landing

Something’s cooking in the village! Learn all about food in 19th-century New Brunswick, everything from food origins to mealtime etiquette, and you’ll even be able to try your hand at some of the culinary activities!

Monday, August 5: Get your head in the game!

Fredericton is hosting the National Men’s 15U and 17U Basketball Championships! Teams from coast to coast will be in town to compete for the title of national champion, so come on out to the Richard J. Currie Center, watch the high-energy game, and cheer on your team!

Tuesday, August 6: Mozart in the Park

Time to get classical! Tonight’s free outdoor concert is a preview of the NB Summer Music Festival, a two-week long celebration of classical chamber music! The event brings in some of Canada’s most talented classical musicians, with concerts, discovery talks, kids’ events and more!

Wednesday, August 7: Wabanaki Medicine Walk

Learn all about the history of local flora and fauna in the old growth forest of Odell Park, guided by knowledgeable Wabanaki medicine keepers.

Thursdays evenings in downtown Fredericton are full of life!  Make a visit to the Garrison Night Market, where you’ll find plenty of artisan-made products, live art, performances, and food from around the world!

Friday, August 9: Meet the Artist in Residence at Odell Park!

Marla Lesage (August 6 – 16): Odell Park Lodge. Explore the art of storytelling and illustrations with Marla during her open studio hours from 1 pm to 5 pm, Tuesdays and Thursday. You can also participate in a drop-in watercolour painting workshop on Friday, August 9, from 12:30 to 2 pm. Read more about the artists throughout the month here!

ECO Market

The Ville Cooperative has launched a new ECO market that promotes sustainable living! You’ll find environmentally conscious arts, crafts, fresh produce, and no plastic products. The market takes place on Fridays from 4-6pm and Saturdays from 9am-12pm.

Monday, August 12: Queer Identities – Pride Art Exhibition

In celebration of pride, a number of quality local artworks will be on display at the Harriet Irving Library. The exhibition will be open from August 1st to the 21st, so don’t miss out!

Put on your dancing shoes and gear up for a night of fun! The Alex Bailey Swing Band is bringing their usual funk to Officers’ Square at 7:30pm, don’t miss the party!

No experience? No problem! Head to the beautiful Mactaquac Provincial Park from 1-3pm for a beginner-friendly tournament of bocce ball!

Wednesday, August 28: Changing of the Guard Ceremony

With a flash of scarlet and a skirl of pipes, history comes to life! Watch the Changing of the Guard Ceremony, a historic re-enactment in Officers’ Square takes place daily at 11am and 4pm. Maybe you will be selected to inspect the guard!

Thursday, August 29: Haunted Hike

Come along for a lantern-lit hike through time, showing you the spooks and chilling takes of Fredericton’s historic downtown. Tours are offered Monday to Saturday all summer long, so arrive at the Coach House at 8:45 if you dare….

Friday, August 30 & Saturday, August 31: Good vibes at Summer Soulsa

Prepare for downtown Fredericton to come alive with Atlantic Canada’s Caribbean and South American carnival! There will be a lively parade, and great music from guest DJs and artists from far and near!
