7 fun date ideas in Fredericton!

The warm weather is here and romance is the freshest fruit in season. After a cold, long winter of “I don’t know, you choose”, you surely don’t want to spend your summer Netflix & chilling! Whether you’re trying things out with your newest Tinder match, or finally finding time to spend with that special someone; make sure to check out these ideas for fun dates in Fredericton.

1. Movie night Under the Stars

Now I know I said no Netflix and chill, but this nostalgic film series will bring the comfort of your movie-night-in right outside. Grab your blankets, lawn chairs and lover’s hand – then head down to Officers’ Square. Couples of all ages gather in this National Historic Site on cool summer nights at dusk (around 9pm) to enjoy classics & modern favourites. With showtimes every Saturday and Sunday evening, popcorn & treats available for purchase on-site, this cozy cliché is soon to become you and your flame’s newest weekend tradition.

2. Fire it up!

Show off your creative side with this downtown Fredericton favourite! Clay Café is a snug yet vibrant “paint-your-own” pottery studio. You and your date can work away at your very own masterpiece, which once fired up, will be a lovely souvenir of your time spent together. Pieces are ready to pick up in 2-5 days; could this be the perfect excuse for a second date?

3. Satisfy your sweet tooth

Nothing brings people together like food. This is why first-time daters and long-married couples alike relish in the joy sharing a tasty snack. Fredericton’s local dessert scene has got you fully served, offering everything from funky fresh donuts at The Donut Bar, decadent desserts at Chess Piece Café, and hand-crafted frozen goodness at Delish Gourmet Rolled Ice Cream. Spending time with your sweetheart has never been sweeter.

4. Get board

So it’s date night, but all you want to do is chill out and have a low-key evening with your partner. Unplugged Board Games Café is the perfect spot to unwind, laugh, and demonstrate your extensive trivia knowledge. $5 gets you unlimited play time with over 700 games to choose from. Don’t shy away from the delicious selection of snacks and drinks to munch on as you game the night away.
Those looking for a bit more of a challenge should head upstairs, to the NO ESCAPE room…

5. Take a plunge

This summer, go on a date that’ll totally sweep you both off your feet! Second Nature Outdoors can gear you up for an afternoon of fun on the Saint John river. Rent a kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddleboard and discover together the beauty of Fredericton’s waterways. And why not check out their Paddle & a Pint nights!

Looking for something with a little less-effort? Not a problem! Hop into an inflatable tube from one of many tubing companies (John’s Village Toobing, Nashwaak Tubing, Taymouth Tubing), and spend a care-free day floating down the Nashwaak river. Nothing beats a warm summer day, a scenic view, and the company of someone you love.

6. Take a tasty tour

With 10 craft breweries/cideries within the capital region and counting, there’s always something good brewing in town.

BYOB: Bring your own bike, (or easily rent one downtown from Savage’s, Second Nature Outdoors or Radical Edge) and discover the local craft alcohol scene! Fredericton’s impressive trail system is conveniently close to some of our best tasting rooms. That’s right; Picaroons Roundhouse, James Joyce Pub, Red Rover Craft Cider, Gahan House Riverside, Graystone Brewing, TrailWay Brewing and York County Cider can all be safely accessed via bicycle. That’s a whole lotta tasty brew to choose from! Make it a pit-stop after your downtown patio dinner date, grab a growler to bring back home, or do some sampling on-site!

7. Find some inspiration

The Beaverbrook Art Gallery has always been a Fredericton treasure, but there is a new light to it since its modern expansion in 2017. Bring a date here to dillydally throughout the spacious gallery; and even lie down in the new Salvador Dali room. Admire world-class creations, discover historical pieces, interpret abstract works, and marvel at paintings you dream of one day being able to afford…  Insider tip: Admission on Thursday evenings is by donation, so save some change to get you & your date something sweet at the chic Café Beaverbrook.
