This week in Fredericton: September 4-10

As Fredericton heads into September, we welcome students back to Fredericton campuses with a bbq and our last summer concert and last Garrison Night Market, the annual NBex, a Pow Wow and Gagetown’s Vintage in the Village!  This is a great time to enjoy cooler temperatures coupled with great events in Fredericton!

A Fredericton tradition continues!

The New Brunswick provincial exhibition, (September 3-9) fondly known as the “Frex” is back and is sure to delight families with midway rides, games, agricultural fair and some special attractions that will be announced soon, so be sure to check our events calendar for updates!

 Vendors, music, clowns & more at the Garrison Night Market

LAST Garrison Night Market of the season and we are going out with a bang! With over 125 vendors, you’ll find some pretty cool and unique gift items, fresh produce, craft beer tasting area and this week you’ll be entertained by Jazz/R&B artist Rich Gloade and taking it up a notch with the Alex Bailey Swing band and music in Officers’ Square with the Tortoise the Hare & the Millionaire.  This is one market you definitely do not want to miss!

Come to a Pow Wow!

The 8th Annual Ekpahak Orientation Pow-wow will be hosted this year by UNB and MWC (Mi'kmaq Wolastoqey Centre.) at the UNB Student Union Building and welcomes students from all Fredericton campuses, but is also open to the general public.  Expect an afternoon of dance, music and traditions of the Indigenous culture!

 Pull up a chair & take in some live music!

This is the last week to enjoy our FREE outdoor summer concert series! Pull up a chair or a blanket and get ready to enjoy live local music! This week enjoy our own “Fredericton Concert & Marching Band” on September 4 and to end the series on September 6 with a BBQ and special welcome to all new and returning students and music by “The Tortoise, the Hare and the Millionaire”.  Both concerts begin at 6:30pm.

 Great music line up at Grimross!

This week at Grimross Brewing three consecutive nights of great music & entertainment beginning on September 5 with Crystal Journey, September 6 is Petunia & the Minimalist Jug Band and Kill Chicago/Midnight Vesta/Art of the Possible on September 7.  Come out and have a listen!

Take a trip to Gagetown!

Here’s a very cool way to visit Gagetown (a 35 minute drive from Fredericton); Its “Vintage in the Village”on September 8! Walk through various venues while sipping wine out of your very own wine goblet, made by a local artisan! This annual event is a great way to see this pretty village and to sample some great regional wines.

Guided Heritage Walking Tours: Take a walk, learn something cool about Fredericton (and it’s free!) Accompany a costumed guide on a historic stroll of Fredericton; you’ll be surprised at the little known facts and history of our city! Tours are offered daily at 4pm from City Hall.

Paddle & Pint: Have you ever tried Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)? There’s no better place to do this than on the gorgeous Saint John River! Learn how to do this cool sport with an hour and a half guided paddle, then head to Graystone brewing for a pint! August 30, 6-8pm.

The Markets! Fredericton has an abundance of local flavours and hand –made products! The Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market (665 George Street) every Saturday, 6m-1pm; the Northside Market (311 St. Mary’s Street) Saturdays 9am-4pm, Sundays 10am-4pm and the Cultural Market (28 Saunders St) 10am-4pm.

Harvest! This year’s Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival promises to give you an incredible line up of music! Names like Sturgill Simpson, Steve Earle, Blackberry Smoke, Mavis Staples, Allan Doyle…the list goes on! As always, Harvest pulls out all the stops so that everyone can enjoy live music on the streets of downtown Fredericton. Check out their website for more details, and see you there!
