This week the great live music continues around town, along with an art walk, our summer programming and some cool events at Kings Landing! It’s not too late to tap into summer in Fredericton!

Dining – 19th Century Style & Best Kept Secrets!

Immerse yourself in 19th century living with a traditional open air long table dining experience! That’s right – Kings Landing is brining the kitchen party outdoors with exclusive after-hours access to the village, a delicious meal and great entertainment! Check out the Feast in the Village, August 25. On Sunday, take part in an adult only guided tour of the village to learn about the surprisingly scandalous Victorian ways in the “Secrets & Taboos” tour, August 26.

Take a walk…look at some art!

Take a leisurely stroll downtown to check out the amazing exhibits on display right now! August 23 is the Downtown Art Walk from 5-8pm.  Check out the Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s current exhibits such as artist Stephen Hutchings – “Landscape Tales” and Peter Coffman’s “Camino” among others as well as the gallery’s permanent collection. Just a short walk away is Gallery 78 where you will see exhibits such as “Summer Blooms” and “The Art of Printmaking”. Afterwards, stroll over to Carleton Street for the Garrison Night Market!

Vendors, music & more at the Garrison Night Market

The Garrison Night Market is hopping this week! With over 125 vendors, you’ll find some pretty cool and unique gift items, fresh produce and this week you’ll be entertained by the folk sounds of Michelle Morrison, Will Forrestall’s “Cycle-Car” display and stroll over the Officers’ Square at 7:30pm for a little Funky Folk with Earthbound!

Pull up a chair & take in some live music!

Free outdoor concerts await – pull up a chair or a blanket and get ready to enjoy live local bands! This week enjoy some Rock/Gospel/Country with “Back to Basics” at the York Care Centre on August 20 at 6:30pm, then head over to Officers’ Square on August 21 for some francophone country/folk with Daniel Leger then over to the north side at the Lawrence Amphitheatre on August 22 for a little R&B/Blues with Sheldon Gordon and the Tone Kings at 7pm. On market night, August 23, head over to Officers’ Square at 7:30pm to take in some funky folk with Earthbound.

Beaverbrook Art Gallery is for Families!

It’s Family Art Day at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, August 26! This free afternoon will feature free tours of the gallery, art activities, demos and more!

Pavillion Sessions continue!

Beaverbook Art Gallery and Feels Good Follyfest is excited to continue the Pavillion Sessions.  Saint John native Erin Muir is “Wrote” and you can catch her at the gallery on August 23 at 5pm.

Blues, folk  & Soul at York Co Cider!

Visit York Co Cider (38 Main St) to listen to Rick Fines. Rick is no stranger to Fredericton as he has become a fan favourite at his numerous Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival performances over the years. Come out, have a drink and a listen!

Watch a movie…Under the Stars!

What better way to see a movie than to be outside “under the stars”! Bring your chairs and blankets and settle in for an outdoor movie at dusk.  This week in Carleton Park on August 22, watch “Cars 3” and on Saturday, watch the 1989 version of “Batman” in Officers’ Square.  Then on Sunday, take yourself away to Rome with the 1963 classic, “Roman Holiday”.

Things happening all summer!

Changing of the Guard Ceremony:  Celebrate the birthplace of the Canadian Army in Fredericton, every day! Fredericton’s past comes to life as “the guard” re-enact through drills in Officers’ Square, daily 11am & 4pm and an extra ceremony Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7pm.  FREE

Guided Heritage Walking Tours: Take a walk, learn something cool about Fredericton (and it’s free!) Accompany a costumed guide on a historic stroll of Fredericton; you’ll be surprised at the little known facts and history of our city! From July 1, two tours are offered at 10am and 2:30pm from City Hall. FREE

Fredericton Outdoor Summer Theatre: You’ll laugh and you’ll sing! Local theatre group the Calithumpians are ready to entertain you in Officers’ Square with their hilarious take of historical themes and social issues with “Theatre in the Park”.  This family friendly show happens daily at 12:15pm in Officers’ Square, and 2pm on weekends, beginning on July 2.  FREE

Fredericton Fencibles Theatre: Take a break in the afternoon at the Guard house (15 Carleton Street) to enjoy a lively theatrical performance based on Fredericton’s role in the Canadian army.  Daily at 4:30pm

Haunted Hikes: Entertaining, scary and funny all rolled up into one evening! Take a Haunted Hike with the Calithumpians! Meet at the Coach House (796A Queen St) at 8:45pm.

Hyla Park Frog Walks: Visit Canada’s first amphibian park by joining in a free guided tour every Thursday evening! Hyla Park is home to 7 different species of frogs and toads, but in particular, the grey tree frog or Hyla versicolor.  Tours begin at 7pm, and it is best to reserve ahead of time to guarantee a spot!

Paddle & Pint: Have you ever tried Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)? There’s no better place to do this than on the gorgeous Saint John River! Learn how to do this cool sport with an hour and a half guided paddle, then head to Graystone brewing for a pint! August 16, 6-8pm.

Speedway 660: Catch the action in Geary! Only 25 minutes from Fredericton, Speedway 660 promises to give you great racing action, and fun for the entire family! August 18 at 6:30pm is “Fan Appreciation Night”; bring the whole family!

The Markets! Fredericton has an abundance of local flavours and hand –made products! Check out the Garrison Night Market (Carleton Street) on August 16,  Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market (665 George Street) every Saturday, 6m-1pm; the Northside Market (311 St. Mary’s Street) Saturdays 9am-4pm, Sundays 10am-4pm and the Cultural Market (28 Saunders St) 10am-4pm.

Foshay International - Situated along the river in Lower Jemseg, the Foshay International will draw top level horses and riders from Canada and the U.S. to compete in their “eventing” or equestrian triathlon over 3 days!
