City Prepares for New Brunswick Day Celebrations

Fredericton, NB (July 30th, 2018) –  The City of Fredericton has been chosen to host the province's official 2018 New Brunswick Day celebrations on Monday, August 6, 2018.  Residents and visitors to the capital can expect a day of free family friendly entertainment, complete with music, activities and entertainment taking place from 10:30am – 3:30pm in Carleton Park on Union Street. 

“As New Brunswick’s capital city, we’re thrilled to have been chosen to host this year’s official holiday celebrations,” said Fredericton Mayor Mike O’Brien.  “I invite everyone to come out an experience some incredible local talent, and fun activities for the whole family.”

In addition to a free BBQ and NB Day cake, kids will enjoy face painting, Tinsel the Clown, GoGo Gymnastics Bouncy castle, The Calithumpians theatre show about famous New Brunswickers, NB Greats, Scotty & The Stars and Fredericton Recreation Department’s ZIG ZAG/ Art on the Move summer program.

There will also be Pontoon boat rides from the Carleton Park boat launch with Rock the Boat River Adventures, a sketch artist on site and some great New Brunswick bands round out the fun. There will be  music by The Lumber Jills, an all National youth championship female fiddlers and dancers, La Virée, a francophone band that everyone will want to sing and dance along to their original East Coast Celtic style music. There will be several  performances from the Multicultural Association of Fredericton to showcase the cultural diversity of New Brunswick and Fredericton’s favourite party band, the Downtown Blues Band will close out the day.

Several provincial dignitaries will be on hand for an official ceremony at 11am including special guests, the Honorable Brian Gallant, Premier of New Brunswick, Honorable Stephen Horseman, Minister of Families and Children, Base Commander of CFB Gagetown, Colonel Keith Osman and Fredericton City Councillor Eric Megarity.  The opening ceremony will also feature local First Nations drumming group, Sisters of the Drum.
