River Jam 2018

Celebrate Fredericton’s vibrant (& generous) music scene at River Jam Friday, June 29th at the Delta Hotel!

For those who don’t already know, River Jam is an annual event this year featuring 20+ local bands on 4 stages under 1 roof over 9+ hours! It is a unique and amazing evening of locals supporting locals as musicians share their talents in support of the larger music community.

What makes this a particularly unique event is the fact that all performers generously donate their time and sponsors support the event to ensure all funds raised can be donated to music-related community projects and organizations. Since its inaugural event in 2000, River Jam has donated more than $85,000 to community groups, schools, and music events.

The volunteer committee has programmed live music to start on the patio stage at 4:30PM and the night will wrap up with a late night jam session on the DJ Purdy’s stage which will leave you singing and dancing into the wee hours.

Set times are staggered allowing fans to catch a bit of every band and all genres of music is offered - acoustic, easy listening, blues, country, rock – to suit everyone’s tastes.

This event holds a special place in my heart as it also plays host to the presentation of the Diane London Award, which I was honoured to receive in 2016. This award is presented each year to a female musician or artist, or someone who works in the arts field and contributes to the community. Nominees can be made through the online form by clicking here.

A couple special events planned for the evening include a participatory choir experience and scenic tours of the majestic St. John River in between sets.

All those present in the hotel lobby early in the evening will be invited to join in for a choir experience as Moon Joyce and Mike Bravener (Just Gotta Sing!) will teach a song before taking everyone outside to sing it for all to enjoy on the Dip Patio.

River Jam, working with Rock the Boat River Adventures docked behind the Dip Patio, will offer river cruises with Captain Mike throughout the evening (at 8, 9 and 10pm) for $10 cash per person.

I recommend you grab all your friends and plan to go early and stay late to check out these fantastic local bands contributing to this phenomenal event! It is always such fun to see the musicians enjoying their friends sets as this is a rare opportunity for them all to be playing under one roof.

The bands playing include a great variety of returning favourites and new up & comers including Downtown Blues Band, 8 Track Mind, Maggie’s Farm Revival, Different Folk, The Tortoise The Hare & The Millionaire, Cameron Molloy, Cat LeBlanc & the Samsonites, Wally MacKinnon & the Renegades, Cookshack and many others.

Be sure to visit their Facebook event here to get all band bios and any other details you might need. Tickets ($22 in advance/$25 at the door) are available online (click here), at the Delta Fredericton and Tony’s Music Box. The full schedule is as follows:
