Fredericton’s First Weekend of Summer Features Traveling Artistic Circus, a New Night Market, Multi-Cultural Festival, Concerts

FREDERICTON (NB): School’s out for summer! A travelling circus, a multi-cultural festival, multiple concerts, theatre and a new night market will make Fredericton’s downtown Historic Garrison District a hopping place to be for the “school’s out” weekend, June 21-23.

“We’re kicking off the official start to summer in a big way,“ said David Seabrook, Manager of Fredericton Tourism. “It’s going to be a great weekend in the city.“

Things get rolling on Thursday evening, June 21st with Machine de Cirque, an award-winning Montreal-based acrobatic circus presented from a mobile truck stage. The troupe will perform two free shows, June 21st and 22nd in the Garrison’s Barracks Square. The first show at 8pm, June 21st will highlight the inaugural Garrison Night Market. 

The second Machine de Cirque show, timed to coincide with the last day of school, will take place at 2pm on Friday, June 22nd.

On Thursday, June 21st the new Garrison Night Market, an art-infused farmers market, on Carleton Street in the Historic Garrison District, kicks off from 4:30pm to 9pm. The Market will feature over 80 vendors selling agricultural products, crafts, art and food. 

The market will also include free entertainment on Carleton Street including performances to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day as well as the upcoming Cultural Expressions Festival which takes place in Officers’ Square, June 22-23.

In Officers’ Square on Thursday evening, Adyn Townes (alternative / indie) will perform at 7pm as a kick off to Fredericton Tourism’s free summer concert series.

The “school’s out” festivities in Fredericton continue into the weekend with the 10th anniversary of the Cultural Expressions Festival, a celebration of cultural diversity, the festival includes two exciting days of entertainment from around the world.

And rounding out the weekend is the kick off to both of the Bard in the Barracks live theatre shows beginning on June 22nd at 7:30pm in Barracks Square with the return of the popular production The Comedy of Errors. Shakespeare’s late romance Cymbeline will run in Odell Park beginning June 24th (7:30pm).
