Theatre New Brunswick - A Christmas Carol

Rehearsals are underway for Theatre New Brunswick’s holiday production of A Christmas Carol. Actors and designers from around the Maritimes and across the country have arrived here in the city and are now hard at work bringing Dickens’ beloved story to life.

This year’s show involves seven professional actors and a four-person professional design team working together with TNB staff under the direction of Halifax based director Ann-Marie Kerr. Between now and opening night (December 14), the actors, designers and director will be putting in eight hour days, six days a week to create what will no doubt be a highlight of this year’s holiday season.

This will be TNB’s seventh time staging a production of A Christmas Carol. Since making their first appearance on the TNB stage back in 1980, Ebenezer, Marley, Fezziwig, Tiny Tim and the rest of Dickens’ unforgettable characters have continued to come together and share this popular holiday story with families and friends from all over the region.

And with each return visit comes a new interpretation and this year’s is truly something special. Over the past six productions, audiences have enjoyed a variety of adaptations from traditional performances to large scale musicals. This year, the company has chosen women to play many of the traditional male roles in the story. That means for the first time on the TNB stage, Scrooge, Marley and Tiny Tim will all be played by female actors!
