A Student’s Guide to De-stressing in Fredericton

“Are you stressed?”
“No, not even a little bit”

An example of something you will never hear from a student in Fredericton (and if you do, make sure you document that moment because that’s incredible). It’s no secret that students are under a lot of stress from school, work and anything else that comes our way.

So, if you’ve finally had enough of staring at the same library wall all semester and need a change of scenery, check out these spots around Fredericton. You’ll be sure to leave less stressed than when you arrived.

Clay Café Fredericton
Grab some friends (or make a solo trip) and head downtown to the Clay café for some art therapy. Paint anything you choose, in any price range you choose, and eat as much candy as you care for. Plus, they offer a 10% discount for post-secondary students. For the even more budget conscious there is a shelf of discounted items.

Unplugged: A Board Games Café
Enjoying a relaxed atmosphere with good food and good company can do wonders for you mood. Pick from a huge selection of board games and have a great time unplugging with your friends. The best part is admission is only $5.

The Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge
Former railway bridge turned pedestrian favourite, the walking bridge is a great place to Fredericton all year round. Clear your mind and get active by taking a walk, running, or biking to one of Fredericton’s most beloved spots. The view will have you forgetting your worries in minutes, and it’s absolutely free!

Chesspiece Café
So maybe you don’t want to entirely forget about your school work and just need a change of scenery? Try heading to one of Fredericton’s friendliest coffee shops. Grab a coffee and get to work! Plus, with their new location at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery you can have a snack that looks as much like a masterpiece as the art on display

Graystone, Grimross, Maybee & The Cellar
Take your pick of Graystone, Grimross or Maybee and unwind with friends. Fredericton really excels in the craft beer scene and we have some great breweries to take advantage of (try all three!). Or, head to The Cellar, during the day it’s a great place to study with a beer and later in the evening you can unwind with friends over food and drinks that are great tasting and priced.

Whether you’re looking to forget about your schoolwork all together (just for a moment), or looking for a new spot to get to work, there are tons of options in Fredericton. Feel free to share your favourite spot to de-stress in Fredericton with us!

Laura Sehl is a fourth year Communications and Public Policy student at St. Thomas University. She was raised on the Kingston Peninsula and now calls Fredericton home. When she finds time away from schoolwork and interning she enjoys exploring Fredericton and sharing what it has to offer.
