For the young and young at heart, what other time of year do you get to don your favourite costume, where it becomes socially acceptable to take on the personality of someone or something else!

The great thing about Halloween is that it is for EVERYONE! From little pirates and princesses to adult size pirates and princesses, pumpkin carving and haunted houses, Fredericton has so many choices for all ghosts and goblins.  We’ve compiled a list of MORE THAN 15 things you should check out during this ghoulish season!

1. Jekyll & Hyde
October 19-21 | Tom Morrison Theatre, Fredericton High School | Tickets $20 at Joy of Framing or at the door (cash)
This widely popular musical horror-drama, which is loosely based on the novella The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, is a spooktacular way to kick off your Halloween festivities! Put on by the local theatre group Collective Theatrics, Jekyll & Hyde delves into the duality of man and the horrors that arise when Dr. Jeckyll, in his attempt to help cure the evil in man, becomes the murderous Mr. Hyde.

2. APEGNB Haunted Tours (Medium & High Scare)
Oct 26 & 27, 6-10pm & Oct 28-29, 5-10pm | Charlotte Street Arts Centre| $10 per person (ages 9 and up)
The historic Charlotte Street Arts Centre is the perfect setting for the annual Haunted Tour.  The Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB) are the creators of this scary event, transforming the old school into a creepy and terrifying experience.  And this year, they have MORE frights in store with new props and more time spent in the creepy basement! This tour is meant for the very “scare-tolerant!”

3. APEGNB Haunted Tour “Low Scare”
Oct 28-29, 10am-5pm| Science East | 457-2340 $5 per person
For kids ages 3 and up, the APEGNB Haunted Tour (Low Scare) offers little ghosts and goblins spooky delights and fascinating sights with the all the intrigue of Science East’s location in the old York County Jail building at 668 Brunswick St. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

4. Calithumpians “Haunted Hikes”  
Fridays & Saturdays until Oct 29, 7pm | 796A Queen Street |  $14 adult, $9 child
You won’t know whether to laugh or scream (maybe both?).  On weekends (Fri & Sat) throughout the month of October until Oct. 30th (tours officially start at 7pm, but best to arrive at 6:45pm), take a guided hike through Fredericton’s dark alleys, cemeteries and eerily empty parking lots.  Bwahahahahaha….

5. Mactaquac ScareFair 
October 28, 3-9pm | Mactaquac Provincial Park| FREE (with a food bank donation)
Take a wagon ride through Mactaquac campground, a.k.a.”Booville” – that’s not scary, you say? Well, what was formerly a peaceful, quiet campground has been transformed into zombie walking, chainsaw wielding journey of terror… all you need to gain admittance is a non-perishable food item, oh and dress for the weather as all activities will be outdoors.

6. Kingswood Entertainment Centre Halloween Bash  
Oct 28, 11am-5pm| Kingswood Entertainment Centre, 1700 Kingswood Way, Hanwell/ Free Admission
Tons of activities, including: Best Costume Prizes, Pin the Nose on the Witch, Creepy Ghost Archery, Skeleton Search, Mummy Wrap, and everyone’s favorite, Put Your Hand in the Mystery Jar and much more!

7. Nightmare on School Street
Oct 25-28 | Kinsmen Centre, 141 School Street
How about trying this haunted house? Wednesday October 25th from 6:00-9:00pm is the kids only night featuring toned down imagery and kid friendly scares. Cost for this night is $3 for everybody attending.  From 7-10pm the event will be enter at your own peril for high scare. Cost for Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be $8 for anyone age 12 and up, and $5 for kids under 12.

8. The Ville Harvest Party
October 29, 12pm-4pm | The Ville Cooperative, 241 Canada Street
The Ville is throwing a Harvest Party! Come celebrate the end of the season with us for live music, pumpkin smashing, pumpkin carving, a barbecue, fresh apple cider, hot chocolate, face painting, pumpkin bowling, bobbing for apples, and more great fall fun! Bring the whole family to join us in celebrating the season in our gardens! Admission by donation.

9. Wolokehkitmok presents: The St Mary’s haunted house
Oct 27 & 28, 7pm-11pm | St Marys Culture Centre, 35 Dedham St |  Admisson $5 with Food bank donation
The St Mary’s Cultural Centre is once again bringing you their Haunted House!  For a lower scare experience,  bring the little ones from 7-9pm; the monsters don’t act up until night time (J).  From 9:30-11pm is for  more braver souls who dare to challenge the nightmare this year!
The location is the amazing (and haunting) downstairs of the St Mary’s Cultural, right across from the St Mary’s Supermarket.

10. The Running Dead Zombie 5K Fun Run 
October 28, 10:30am | Killarney Lake | 12 pm
Just in case you haven’t had enough of zombies or unknown creatures chasing you through the shadows, this 5K run around Killarney Lake will have you watching out for lurking zombies hiding in the bushes. Runners wear ribbons and are “chased” by a zombie in a “capture the flag” style event.  Zombies are stationed throughout the course in an attempt to get the runner’s ribbon.  Winning the race means crossing the finish line with at least one ribbon.  Good times!

11. Friendly Haunted “HotHouse 
October 21/22 & 28/29, 11am-5pm | Moxon’s Country Pumpkin
 Head out to Moxon’s Country Pumpkin (911 Route 105 Maugerville) where they’ve transformed the 100 foot tomato hothouse into a family friendly haunted house! Geared to kids, this haunted hothouse is low scare.  Just bring a non perishable food item as a donation.

12. Trick or Treating! (The Safe Way!)
October 31, 4-6pm|Brookside Mall
Once again, kids will be able to trick or treat safely and out of the cold by visiting Brookside Mall.  Bring your little goblins to the mall between 4-6pm and participating retailers will have treats to hand out.

13. A Haunted Drive In!
October 21, 7:30pm | Auto City Fredericton, 40 Main Street | Admission by donation
Hey goblins and ghouls! Are you ready for a night of fright that makes your hair stand up and your socks jump off? Well, look no further! Auto City Fredericton is doing a drive in like movie theater for all  horror fans! They will be featuring 2 popular horror films: Night of the Living Dead (1968) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

15. Maybee’s Halloween Bash

Milda’s Pizza will be serving up some Halloween inspired pizzas, craft beer, live music, haunted brewery tours and a costume contest!

16.Halloween Spooktacular

A Halloween costume party with some amazing prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, plus some great live music!

17. Nightmare on George Street
Oct 28, 9pm | Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market
A favourite Halloween event, where all goblins, ghosts and just plain weird creatures come out of the woodwork to rock with ‘80’s cover band “Pretty in Pink”.

This should keep many a green eyed monster busy this Halloween in Fredericton! So go ahead, dig out the costume and take part in the many events and activities taking place in the region.  And remember kids, share the treats with the adults, cuz they love them too!
