This week in Fredericton: August 28-September 4

This week we bid a fond “adieu” to some of our summer programming but look forward to the annual NB Exhibition (a Labour Day Weekend tradition in Fredericton!) and looking ahead, gearing up for Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival!

NBex Celebrating 190 years!
New Brunswick Provincial Exhibition (NBex) is celebrating its 190th year!  This event, formerly known as the “Frex” is a long standing agricultural fair that has evolved over time to become a family oriented week long  event, complete with midway rides (and don’t forget the famous “Dippy Dogs”!), live music, stage shows and more! And since this is a special anniversary year, there will even be a parade (more on that later!) A perfect way to usher in September!

Time for some "fun." #Fredericton #nbex

Clap your hands, stomp your feet!
Our Summer Concert Series continues and with it is a flare of pipes, blues and rock! On Tuesday listen to Fredericton’s favourite pipe band, the Society of St. Andrew Pipe Band, then on Wednesday, the Rick Reissner Band  will perform some soft rock tunes on the Main Street stage and then on Thursday, the Crosscut Blues Band will deliver some great blues and roots tunes! Bring a chair and take in some great (and free!) outdoor music!

If you are into live entertainment in a cool venue that serves craft beer, you’re in luck! Grimross Brewing Co brings you Toronto’s “Civil Wray” on August 31 and Newfoundland’s “Rough Hands” on September 1.

Labour Day Weekend in Fredericton!
What are you doing on Labour Day? How about taking in a traditional Labour Day picnic in Officers’ Square? It’s all about fun  with a free mini carnival,  live music by “The Common People”, games, prizes, face painting, snacks, Calithumpians, BBQ, bouncy castles and Fire truck and ambulance tours!   Everyone loves a parade! As part of the NBex celebrations, there will be a parade that will showcase the 190 years that the New Brunswick Provincial Exhibition has been operating in Fredericton.

It’s all Downhill from here…
Have you ever did do any Downhill Mountain Biking? How about watching it? Crabbe Mountain is excited to bring you “Gravity Fest” on September 2 and 3.   Watch or participate in this awesome adrenaline packed weekend!

Outdoor movies abound!
Nothing says summer than watching movies outside on the big screen! And this is your last chance to take in our Under the Stars movies in Officers’ Square, so there’s motivation enough to bring the whole family!  On Saturday watch 1989 classic “Steel Magnolias”, and on Sunday watch 1969 John Wayne classic “True Grit”.   Bring your chairs and blankets and settle in for a movie night “Under the Stars”.
