This week in Fredericton: July 31-August 6

Do  something a little different this New Brunswick Day long weekend in Fredericton! Why not run for beer, wine and spirits during the NB Day Running Weekend! Into Live Theatre? You can be part of the audience with the Notable Acts Theatre Festival. As always, we will bring you some great live music with our concert series and the ever popular Nashwaak Music Festival! But there’s so much more going on in Fredericton; take a read and start planning!

Will Run for Beer (and wine, and spirits…)
Whatever your motivation to lace up your sneakers, this should help: NB Day Running Weekend  involves 3 days of running events, all taking place in beautiful downtown Fredericton, with the trail system as the backdrop. On August 5, run one mile then partake in some cocktails in the Spirited Dash,  on August 6 choose between a 5k or 5 miler followed by wine samples with the Wine Run, and wrap up the weekend with the annual Beer Run on August 7 where you can choose between a  4, 6, & 12 Km run followed by great Craft Beer, Cider and Mead sampling!

From Jazz to Blues and R&B, it’s our (FREE) live music line up!
You know you’re sure to be entertained in Fredericton! This week listen to some great jazz sounds with Nathalie Renault on August 1  in Officers’ Square, and on August 2 at noon, relax with some classical music with Dulcinaya with Carolyn Holyoke and Line Michaud at St. Anne’s Chapel of Ease. The North side concert series brings you a little Blues/R&B with SG & the Tone Kings at 7pm and on August 3 Up and coming band, “Earthbound” plays a little folk/rock at Officers’ Square at 7:30pm. On Friday, spend your lunch hour at Christ Church Cathedral  with Alycia Putnam & Family. On August 5, our Next2Now Concert Series brings you the Alternative Pop sounds of Alejandra Ribera.  Lots of reasons to clap your hands and tap your feet!

Making beautiful music along the banks of the Nashwaak
Set amidst the backdrop of the beautiful Nashwaak River, it’s the Annual Nashwaak Music Festival.  A full line up of music from August 4-6 with local vendors, kids’ activities and camping, what more can you ask for? Classic Movies “Under the Stars”
Are you a trekkie? Then you need to see Saturday night’s Under the Stars movie, “Star Trek II- Wrath of Khan” on August 5. But wait, there’s more great movies to enjoy! On August 6, catch Katherine Hepburn and Carey Grant in “Bringing up Baby”.  Both movies take place in Officers’ Square; bring a chair and enjoy!

“Escape” to the Library!
How fun is this! The Fredericton Public Library has partnered with Unplugged Board Games to give kids (13 years +) an Escape Room experience! Be sure to register first, call 460-2829.  Every Saturday, 10:30am-3:30pm.

Play Ball!
Fredericton’s own DQ Royals will be up against Chatham on historic “Baseball Hill” on August 4, 7:30pm. Come out and cheer on the players!

Changing of the Guard Ceremony – With a rich military history,  “the Guard” will re-enact a drill ceremony to the beat of a piper and drummer! You may even be chosen to inspect the guard! Daily at 11am & 4pm with an additional ceremony on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm.

Croquet Match – Take on the Fredericton Fencibles crew in a friendly match! Mon-Fri at 11:30am, Sat & Sun at 11:30 and 1:15pm.

Fencibles Theatre – With dramatic flare, this motley crew will entertain you with military history.  Daily at 4:30pm.

To market , to market – Find everything from yummy pastries, award winning coffee to simply divine ethnic food with one of our markets! Just being there is an experience!

Science East - kids can take advantage of Toonie Saturdays (as the name implies) and Sensational Sundays.  And here’s the cool part – they have so much fun, they don’t know they’re learning!

Beaver Pond Tours – Learn all about the beaver with this fun (and free) guided tour in Mactaquac.  Call to book an appointment!

Hyla Park - Canada’s first amphibian sanctuary, home to the Little Gray Tree Frog offers FREE tours to learn all about this protected area.  Next tour is August 3 at 7pm.
