This week in Fredericton: June 26-July 2

New Brunswick’s capital is THE place to be this week! This is a big weekend in Fredericton with Canada Day Celebrations, the colourful costumed characters of Animaritime, not to mention much of Fredericton’s summer programming ramping up for the season! It’s definitely “full speed ahead” with lots to keep you entertained!

Canada, you look marvelous for your age!
This year marks Canada’s 150th birthday! In celebration, many cities around the country are pulling out the red and white and throwing a party like no other! Fredericton is no exception, with live music over 2 days (June 30 and July 1), cultural activities, art projects and more! Officers’ Square will offer live music and a beer garden, while Barracks Square (July 1) will feature “Teepee Teachings” from our very own St Mary’s First Nation, plus performances from the Multicultural Association of Fredericton and MORE live music! To top off the festivities on July 1st, a dramatic fireworks display will be seen over the Saint John River!  Don’t miss the party!

Remembering Great Canadians at the Playhouse
Canada’s Forgotten Father – At the Fredericton Playhouse, a play in four acts about Miramichi Father of Confederation and Beaubears Island owner, Peter Mitchell of Newcastle, who was instrumental in forming our constitution.

Canada's Forgotten Father

The Play’s the Thing
“Until I know this sure uncertainty, I'll entertain the offered fallacy.”  If you are a lover of Shakespeare’s plays, this is from “A Comedy of Errors”; one of two plays scheduled to hit the streets of Fredericton.  That’s right.  Shakespeare as performed outside, in this case in Barrack’s Square.  This is the first of two productions this summer. The second, “Richard III” will bring the audience into the beautiful Odell Park, serving as a natural backdrop.  Bring along a chair and enjoy live theatre in the heart of downtown Fredericton!

Colourful Characters Running Amok!
Animaritime – What’s this you ask?  It’s a coming together of those who have a deep passion and enthusiasm for all things anime, manga, and gaming.  What’s great about this 3 day event is Fredericton is transformed into a land of Anime and Manga characters, with the odd Storm Trooper and Super Mario thrown in for good measure!
