This week in Fredericton: July 3-9

If Fredericton was a freight train, we’d be running at full throttle this week! Looking for Free outdoor concerts? How about outdoor theatre/film and watching a Changing of the Guard Ceremony (you may be chosen to inspect!) With this much music, theatre and FREE activities, your biggest dilemma will be choosing which to do in the province’s Capital!

Jamming it up…near the River!
If you are into smooth jazz or maybe an intimate blues atmosphere or dance party, River Jam (July 7) is an event you don’t want to miss! One of Fredericton’s favourite music events of the summer with 4 stages and over 20 local bands, it’s an amazing showcase of Fredericton’s local music scene! The evening starts at 4:30pm at the Delta’s Dip Bar Patio and carries on until the wee hours for the die-hard music fan!

Now is the Winter of our Discontent…
Calling all Shakespeare aficionados! Or for that matter, anyone who has some affinity to outdoor theatre…you cannot miss Bard in the Barracks with Shakespeare’s “Richard III”: treachery, murder, the monarchy: it’s all here folks! This truly unique “promenade style” play has the audience travel  through Fredericton’s Odell Park, following the action. A truly unique experience!

Blast from the Past…Under the Stars!
If you were a teen in the ‘80’s you’ll remember wildly popular “Brat Pack” movie Pretty in Pink (July 8)!  The first of our “Under the Stars Modern Favourites” outdoor movie series, grab a chair and head to Officers’ Square at dusk.   How about classic movies? If you are a James Dean fan, we’ll be showing , “Rebel without a Cause” on July 9! Planning ahead? View the full movie schedule here!

“Where I’m From”
In Mi’kmaq, the word “MALA” means “Where I’m From”; inspired by this year’s Canada 150 celebrations, MALA lets the world know through an amazing multimedia presentation and a mobile application, a series of quintessential New Brunswick images or “moments” in history, projected on the front of the Legislative Assembly building.  This is one thing you cannot miss this summer!

Music, music everywhere!
Part of the Acadian music revolution, Raphael Butler will be performing in Officers’ Square on July 4 and then on July 5 head to the Northside of Fredericton for a little Country/Rock with “Red White & Grey”; back in Officers’ Square, Rock band “The Onset” will entertain you (July 6).

Fredericton has some beautiful historic churches, and within these walls is music, of course! The Summer Recital Series at St. Annes Chapel of Ease begins on July 5 with Krystyna Higgins & Dianne Roxborough Brown performing piano duets and then on July 7, Christ Church Cathedral’s Organist David Drinkell will perform.
