FREDERICTON, NB – Internationally renowned singer Measha Brueggergosman and The Glorious Sons will headline a jam packed two days of free entertainment in Fredericton this year’s Canada Day Weekend to ring in the country’s 150th birthday!

“The Canada Day Committee has worked hard over the last 20 years to make Canada Day celebrations in Fredericton special and this year we are pulling out all the stops” said event chair Paul Wentzell. “We are thrilled to have a hometown Icon like Measha as one of our headline entertainers for this special year.  Fredericton will be throwing a 2 day Birthday party that you absolutely don’t want to miss.”

Fredericton’s Brueggergosman, who has also made a name for herself in the contemporary scene, will give an early evening performance. Kingston Ontario’s Rock & Roll band The Glorious Sons will close out the night after the fireworks.

“Canada Day celebrations in Fredericton will highlight the best of what our community has to offer to our country. I look forward to sharing in this special occasion with constituents, and wish everyone in  Fredericton a happy Canada 150" says Matt DeCourcey, Member of Parliament for Fredericton.

Joining the impressive line up are New Brunswick’s indie-folk Francophone trio Les Hay Babies as well as The Muskrat Singers from St. Mary’s First Nation.

Additional celebratory events are also planned for Barracks Square and within St. Anne’s Point Boulevard and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery will open and offer free admission for the day.  The Canada Day programming will wrap up with a large fireworks display.

Toronto band, I Mother Earth, was previously announced as the Friday evening (June 30) headliner for kick off events being held in Officers’ Square.

“We’re excited to be hosting another fantastic event to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday” said City of Fredericton Mayor Mike O’Brien. “I’m confident this weekend will go down in the history books as one of Fredericton’s best ever Canada Day celebrations. I invite everyone to come downtown over the holiday weekend to experience some incredible live music and entertainment, fun activities for kids, and more!”

Fredericton is one of 19 urban centres across Canada that will play host to large scale official Canada 150 Celebrations.

“Our communities are at the heart of the Canada 150 celebrations. During this exceptional year, Canadians from coast to coast to coast will have the opportunity to participate in a series of exciting events culminating in Canada Day. I invite all people of Fredericton to come together with family and friends to take part in the festivities in their community and celebrate Canada’s anniversary!”
