For the young and young at heart, what other time of year do you get to don your favourite costume, where it becomes socially acceptable to take on the personality of someone or something else!

The great thing about Halloween is that it is for EVERYONE! From little pirates and princesses to adult size pirates and princesses, pumpkin carving and haunted houses, Fredericton has so many choices for all ghosts and goblins.  We’ve compiled a list of 14 things you should check out during this ghoulish season!

1. APEGNB Haunted Tours (Medium & High Scare)
Oct 27, 6-10pm & Oct 28-30, 5-10pm | Charlotte Street Arts Centre| $10 per person (ages 9 and up)
The historic Charlotte Street Arts Centre is the perfect setting for the annual Haunted Tour.  The Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB) are the creators of this scary event, transforming the old school into a creepy and terrifying experience.  This tour is meant for the very “scare-tolerant!”

2. APEGNB Haunted Tour “Low Scare”
Oct 29-30, 10am-5pm| Science East| 457-2340 $5 per person
For kids ages 3 and up, the APEGNB Haunted Tour (Low Scare) offers little ghosts and goblins spooky delights and fascinating sights with the all the intrigue of Science East’s location in the old York County Jail building at 668 Brunswick St. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

3. Calithumpians “Haunted Hikes
Fridays & Saturdays until Oct 29, 7pm| 796A Queen Street|  $14 adult, $9 child
You won’t know whether to laugh or scream (maybe both?).  On weekends (Fri & Sat) throughout the month of October until Oct. 30th (tours officially start at 7pm, but best to arrive at 6:45pm), take a guided hike through Fredericton’s dark alleys, cemeteries and eerily empty parking lots.  Bwahahahahaha….

4. Mactaquac ScareFair 
October 22, 3-9pm| Mactaquac Provincial Park| FREE (with a food bank donation)
Take a wagon ride through Mactaquac campground, a.k.a.”Booville” – that’s not scary, you say? Well, what was formerly a peaceful, quiet campground has been transformed into zombie walking, chainsaw wielding journey of terror… all you need to gain admittance is a non-perishable food item, oh and dress for the weather as all activities will be outdoors.

5. Kingswood Entertainment Centre Halloween House
Until Oct 31|Kingswood Entertainment Centre, 1700 Kingswood Way, Hanwell| $2 for kids haunted house, $3 for Adult Haunted House with a food bank donation
New this year, Kingswood Entertainment Centre will be transformed into a creepy Haunted House! For the little ones, a Kids’ Haunted House will operate during regular hours, the adult Haunted House (16+) will be open Friday and Saturdays (Oct 21/22 & 28/29)from 6-10pm.  Check it out!

6. Nightmare on School Street 
Oct 26-29 |Kinsmen Centre, 141 School Street
How about trying this haunted house? Wednesday October 26th from 6:00-9:00pm is the kids only night featuring toned down imagery and kid friendly scares. Cost for this night is $3 for everybody attending.  October 27th, 28th & 29th from 6-7pm will be a low scare hour (fewer jump scares but all horror imagery and lighting effects intact). From 7:30-10:30pm the event will be enter at your own peril for high scare. Cost for Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be $7 for anyone age 12 and up, and $3 for kids under 12. 

7. Halloween Howler 
October 29, 9:30pm|Capital Exhibit Centre|Tickets $10 at the NBex office
Dance to the beat of David in the Dark and Vinyl2bits! The fun and great music takes place at Capital Exhibit Centre, and of course, it is always best to be in costume as there is prizes for best one!! Doors open at 9:30pm.

8. The Ville Harvest Party
October 30, 11am-4pm | The Ville Cooperative, 241 Canada Street
The Ville is throwing a Harvest Party! Come celebrate the end of the season with us for live music, pumpkin smashing, pumpkin carving, a barbecue, fresh apple cider, hot chocolate, face painting, pumpkin bowling, bobbing for apples, and more great fall fun! Bring the whole family to join us in celebrating an amazing first season in our gardens! Admission by donation.

9. The Running Dead Zombie 5K Fun Run 
October 29, 11am|Killarney Lake| Register
Just in case you haven’t had enough of zombies or unknown creatures chasing you through the shadows, this 5K run around Killarney Lake will have you watching out for lurking zombies hiding in the bushes. Runners wear ribbons and are “chased” by a zombie in a “capture the flag” style event.  Zombies are stationed throughout the course in an attempt to get the runner’s ribbon.  Winning the race means crossing the finish line with at least one ribbon.  Good times!

10. Friendly Haunted “HotHouse 
October 22/23 and 29/30 | Moxon’s Country Pumpkin|11am-5pm
Head out to Moxon’s Country Pumpkin (911 Route 105 Maugerville) where they’ve transformed the 100 ft tomato hothouse into a family friendly haunted house! Geared to kids, this haunted hothouse is low scare.  Just bring a non perishable food item as a donation.

11. Pumpkin Carving Contest 
October 22, 9am|Fredericton Boyce Farmers’ Market
Who’s the most creative carver of pumpkins?  This contest is for the kids’ creations! Bring your masterpiece to the Fredericton Boyce Farmers’ Market to be judged. Prizes will be awarded by age category (4-6/7-9/10-12). Pumpkins will then be auctioned off!

12. Trick or Treating! (The Safe Way!)
October 31, 3-5pm|Brookside Mall
Once again, kids will be able to trick or treat safely and out of the cold by visiting Brookside Mall.  Bring your little goblins to the mall between 3-5pm and participating retailers will have treats to hand out.

13. Oktoberfest Fredericton
October 22, 2pm-12am | Capital Exhibit Centre
$10 Entry • $5 Before 5:00 PM,  all ages before 7:00PM (Under 19 Must be Accompanied by Parent or Guardian).  FREE Rickard's Beer Stein for first 200 Paid at the Door. Featuring: BEER, Entertainment by Black Forest Band , Food Vendors,  an Oktoberfest Social Setting, a keg tapping, prizes & more!


14. The Great Pumpkin Party
October 30, 3-5pm Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market
The Great Pumpkin Party is a Kids Halloween Costume Party in support of The Chalmers Hospital "Care for Kids" Campaign. Performances by Scotty and the Stars and the Calithumpians as well as lots of fun activities and treats for the kids! Games, potions and even a Fortune Teller! Admission is by donation to the Chalmers Foundation.

15. Nightmare on George Street
Oct 29, 9pm | Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market
A favourite Halloween event, where all goblins, ghosts and just plain weird creatures come out of the woodwork to rock with ‘80’s cover band “Pretty in Pink” at the Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market.  Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Read’s Newsstand.

This should keep many a green eyed monster busy this Halloween in Fredericton! So go ahead, dig out the costume and take part in the many events and activities taking place in the region.  And remember kids, share the treats with the adults, cuz they love them too!
