The NB Fine Craft Festival

The NB Fine Craft Festival

From Etsy shops to Pinterest boards, handmade goods have never been hotter. But, from August 26 to 28, why not step away from your computer and smartphone screens to get up close and personal with one-of-a-kind works in Fredericton’s historic downtown?  #FromHumanHands is the second New Brunswick Fine Crafts Festival of 2016, and is one of my favourite late summer traditions here in Fredericton.  Vendors, who are all Juried Members of the New Brunswick Crafts Council, offer the best in pottery, textiles, glass, wood, soaps, candles, jewelry, metal, wrought iron, clothing, food, baskets and many other disciplines. With brand new vendors and public craft workshops this year, you certainly don’t want to miss out on this!

In addition to nearly 40 exhibitors’ booths, the Festival will include live participatory demonstrations with NBCCD, a Citizens of Craft photo booth, and henna. There’s even an art corner with Beaverbrook Art Gallery and face painting for the kids, so you can get your budding young artisans started early.

The soundtrack for the weekend is also full of local flavor with live performances featuring Hum & Hollow, Rosewood Groove, Juanita Bourque, Carolyn Holyoke, and Brittany McQuinn.

And why not cap off your craft festival experience with local craft beer or cider?  Picaroons, one of Fredericton’s favourite local breweries is sponsoring a beer garden at this year’s festival. In addition to Picaroons Traditional Ales, Red Rover Cider will be for sale. There will also be wood-fired pizza available from Milda’s Pizza for hungry festival-goers.

New this year are the public workshops! There are four unique workshops from which to choose: Eco Print, Needle Felt, Metal Form, and World of Wampum (2 sessions). For more information and to register, click here.

The New Brunswick Fine Crafts Festival runs Friday, Aug. 26 (12pm – 6pm), Saturday, Aug. 27 (10am – 5pm) and Sunday, Aug. 28 (11am – 4pm) in Officers’ Square.  Admission is $3.00 (free for children under 12), with proceeds supporting the NB Crafts Council.  A full list of vendors can be found here. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

The New Brunswick Crafts Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting excellence in crafts, maintaining standards of craftsmanship and expanding markets for fine crafts.
