5 CAN’T MISS Fredericton Adventures!

5 CAN’T MISS Fredericton Adventures!

Adventure can be anywhere you look – especially right here in Fredericton. In fact, adventure could be our middle name if a city could have one. Whether you’re passing through on summer holidays or are a permanent fixture to our beautiful city, allow me to be your official Adrenaline Guide.

Here are the top 5 Fredericton adventures you MUST cross off your summer bucket list:

Biking
First thing’s first: you have to get around town somehow. Why not rent a mountain bike from any of these downtown locations:
- Savages Bike Shop, 441 King St – See this location on Google Maps
- The Radical Edge, 129 Westmorland St – See this location on Google Maps
Then spin to some of the best XC MTB Trails in the province dotted around town. Ask any staff for their favourite trails. If you need to find the best trail closest to you while you’re in the city click here and go get dirty.

Climbing
If agility and strength is something you crave, check out the UNB Rock & Ice Club or stop in to see them on campus Tuesday to Friday from 6-9pm at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym (2 Peter Kelly Dr.). Don’t worry about heights, this cozy bouldering gym has short walls! The friendly and knowledgeable staff are all climbers who love getting new folks involved in the sport. Test your physical fitness and mental abilities to send your own personal Everest. Find a climbing partner at the gym, then take it outside! New Brunswick is “chalk”-full of great spots to climb.

Swing from the Trees!
If heights are no bother to you give TreeGo Mactaquac a try located 1439 Route 105, Mactaquac! There’s no bigger thrill than climbing up a tree, locking yourself into your harness and zip lining through the forest. Let your inner animal shriek as you monkey around through rope bridges and netting high above the ground. Bookings are required so make sure you call ahead (1-877-707-4646) to schedule this adventure. Little explorers are welcome to come but must be at least 7 years of age, or 4’7”!

Camping Adventures
Mactaquac Provincial Park is a little gem just outside of our city that is worth a visit. After you’ve completed the Treego course, reserve a camping site and stay for awhile. The park boasts many unique hiking trails that are home to the North American Beaver. Try the “Beaver Pond Trail” or “Alex Creek Trail”, both of which round a beaver pond where you can see older beaver activity and existing functional dams. Park at the water tower marked with a hiking sign just yards from the park gate, and head into beaver country! After your hike, reward yourself by laying on the beautiful sandy beach and watch paddlers and boaters enjoy the Mactaquac Park Arm.

Explore the Water!
Feeling like you want to get in the water? Stand Up Paddling, paddle boarding or SUPing is an up and coming water sport – if you haven’t tried it yet it’s time to take the plunge. Rent a SUP from Second Nature Outdoors located at the Small Craft Aquatic Center (63 Brunswick Street) and explore the coves and islands of the Saint John River. Once you get the hang of balancing on the board, try to find your Zen and join Second Nature Outdoors for their SUP Yoga Classes at Hartt Island.

And you can find other ways to explore Fredericton’s rivers here!
